Weight and Health: Foundational Knowledge to Guide your Approach to Working with Eating Disorders

RECEIVE 2 CREDIT HOURS OF CE/CME! *Approved for physicians, nurses, dietitians and social workers. Other healthcare professionals may consult their licensure board to verify that their participation counts toward CE requirements.* This presentation will provide a foundational context to working with eating disorder clients. Participants will gain research-based information regarding why we are the size we are, why it is difficult to maintain weight loss, and weight-related health outcomes. Our goal is to begin myth-busting commonly held assumptions regarding the relationships among weight, weight loss and health. A weight-neutral approach will be discussed as an alternative to focusing on weight in treatment. Objectives: 1. Participants will be able to explain the primary factors in one’s weight status 2. Participants will be able to describe the interrelated relationships among weight stigma, weight cycling and health outcomes 3.
