Family Therapy for the Care and Treatment of Eating Disorders

Other healthcare professionals may consult their licensure board to verify that their participation counts toward CE requirements.* This presentation will equip participants to engage family members in the recovery process, leading to improved treatment outcomes and invaluable support for those in recovery from an eating disorder. Providers will learn techniques to help families navigate over and under-control, dismantle diet culture within the family, and promote systemic change to support recovery while fostering autonomy. This presentation covers limitations in current research, an overview of treatment themes, and identifies further areas that require exploration. Objectives: 1. Equip participants with the knowledge and techniques to help family members navigate boundaries, ensuring developmentally appropriate levels of agency for the client, fostering independence and personal growth 2. Provide tools and strategies for assisting families in managing conflict and restoring healthy relationships 3. Enable participants to create a deeper understanding of the client's eating disorder within the family context 4. Provide families with tools to enhance mindfulness practices within the home
